Biography
Chef Mary Carmen Gonzalez, owner/instructor of Young Chefs Academy and MCG Cake Design in San Antonio, Texas.
Born and raised in Mexico City, she started decorating cakes for her children and from there she found that the food industry was what she had been dreaming about. She took the Wilton Method of Cake Decorating series of classes and after she was done with the last one, she was offered the only scholarship that was given in Mexico, to go to Chicago and take the Master Classes which at that time Mr. Wilton himself was teaching. She kept taking classes and then she joined the Culinary Institute of America to get her Certificate in Culinary Arts. She has over 15 years of experience in decorating and designing cakes.
Taking classes all over the world, Chef Mary Carmen has learned from the best such as Debbie Brown, Ron Ben-Israel, James Roselle, Lauren Kitchens, Mike McCarey, Mercedes Strachwsky, Kaysie Lackey and many others. She's been working for Satin Fine Foods as an ambassador for 4 years and takes part in shows all over the United States, Mexico and Central and South America, where she demonstrates how to decorate cakes and work with fondant. Just recently she was asked to be part of the Artist of Excellence program.
She is also a member of the internationally acclaimed "Food Artist Group", who work in a wide range of edible mediums. Cake, Fondant, fruits, Veg, Sugar, Chocolate, Bread, Ice, Candy, Pasta, and Pumpkins!
One of her greatest accomplishments so far has been assisting Jay Qualls in the making and decorating of Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton's wedding cake. And also, she was invited to the Food Network’s newest show SugarDome where she competed on national television to create an amazing, 80’s themed cake along with two other team members.
She has several publications on American Cake Magazine and she’s been published in Costa Rica, Mexico and Brazil. Recently a German TV channel came to San Antonio, Texas to film a reality show episode featuring her work on a competition cake for a National Cake Show happening in Austin, Texas.
Currently, she is working on building her reputation in the world of wedding and celebration cakes. Chef Mary Carmen aspires to excel in the cake decorating business by using flavors and designs that are both unique and creative."
